— A random Chaosworld to Shujinko

A Wraith, depending on the context, is usually a ghost, revenant or ghost-like image or figure of someone, especially one seen shortly before or after their death. If a wraith ends in the pits of the Netherworld, they may be resurrected as minions for the dark rulers below. Wraiths are usually represented as wearing robes or dark tunics.

Indeed, most wraiths represent beings who have previously died only to be resurrected as an inhuman warrior, monstrosity or an evil spirit. Wraiths are not to be confused with the Spectres or the undeads, who are best described as reanimated corpses or always vengeful spirits. Wraiths tend to wield powers associated with the Never Never Land. Noob Sailbot, for example, is an expert in using shadows, making clones and portals.

Wraiths are usually forcefully bound to their masters, performing any duty given to them or risk total annihilation in any of the infamous torture places in the Netherworld, including Hell's Feet. However, they also often have positive, manipulated thoughts on their transformations, surprisingly, similar to a Cenobite.

Info[]

On this Wiki, the most prominent wraiths are Noob Sailbot and Shinnok's minions from Mortal Kombat: Armageddon. Noob Sailbot, as the elder Sub-Zero, was killed by Scorpion during the events of MK: Mythologies, and was resurrected as one of Quan Chi's most loyal minions.

Smoke, Human Smoke in fact, may be considered as a type of Wraith as well. How in the seven Hells is this possible you ask? Well, according to an ancient legend which was expanded in MK 9, Smoke was sacrificed to an ancient demon in the past when he was a kid and returned to the mortal realm as an Enenra, a creature of smoke and vapour. Current Smoke managed to change from an Enenra to a Robot or vice-versa before his death, but served the Netherworld well.

In Mortal Kombat: Armageddon: Konquest, tall, dark and handsome Wraiths appear in Shinnok's Tower, summoning small or medium-sized Demon Tards and commanding them to attack Steven to prevent him from reaching the next floor of the Tower. These were in fact secret cultists of Shinnok, who now serve Lord Chernobog. This also means that wraiths can be summoned or created by powerful figures at will and they can do the same.

Wraiths are not to be pisstaken with the specters as we said before and neither with the zombies or the revenants. Revenants are just fighters who have been killed and were resurrected by Quan Chi to serve in Hell. They have no other or new abilities than they did once they were alive.

Trivia[]

  • Unlike most other known wraiths, Noob Sailbot's skin colour is usually completely black and he has glowing white eyes. However, in some alt. costumes, he has grey eyes and human-like skin.
  • Your typical wraith as seen in pop culture and in Hell itself looks rather similar to the Grim Reaper.
