Thurlow Reese is a minor character featured in Red Dead Redemption part I, American West, and Red Dead Revolver 3dn edition.
Info[]
Thurlow is a rancher/farmer in the Indian Hills region. He also has a daughter and wife, so he may have a larger family. He used to work as a travelling merchant who operated in the dangerous territories surrounding Gold Town.
Interactions[]
Revolver[]
Jack Marston first meets Thurlow upon his arrival in Twin Rocks during the mission "Twin Rocks". Their transaction is cut short by the appearance of Irish's Gang. At the end of the mission, Jackson claims Reese's wagon in order to haul his bounty cargo to Silver Town to collect his reward. Jack's transaction with Reese represents the first shop interface the player experiences in the game.
Jack encounters Thurlow again while travelling through Spider's Quarry. Reese shows Jack a shortcut past a mass of giant rocks. Depending on the player's approach in this section, Reese may be knocked out by the snipers. If Jack deals with the snipers before they can take out the trader, Thurlow will give Jack $1500 for his troubles.
American West[]
Marston encounters Reese when beginning the Twin Rocks gang hideout. Reese asks for Marston's help in rescuing his daughter who has been abducted by Irish's Gang.
Reese is a frequent player of blackjack in Desert Fort. He is also commonly seen in Silver Town riding a one horse wagon or is seen in the saloon. He seems to be somewhat timid or nervous, as when he communicates he nervously says; "Uh, hel-... hello" or "Excuse me, mister". He can be also seen in random encounters where he will ask the player to save his wife from being hanged. He can also be seen walking around the streets of Gold Town.
Showdown Mode[]
Reese is unlocked as a playable character in Showdown Mode by either completing the mission "Twin Rocks" on bonus mode or by purchasing the Open Sign.
Journal Entry[]
Thurlow Reese was a random guy I met many times walkin' from town to town. It appeared so he was a merchant of sorts. Norris Laskey, proprietor of the General Store in Gold Town, views Mr. Reese as a threat and he wrote a letter to me suggesting that Reese's low prices are only possible because he gets his merchandise from thieves and bandits.
Trivia[]
- If the player saves Thurlow from the snipers, the player can subsequently shoot him. If he is only wounded, however, Reese will fight back.
- If the player does not succeed in saving Reese, sleeping 'Z' symbols can be seen rising from him, indicating that he was only knocked out not killed, sadly.
