The Five Families Mob War was a major conflict between France's Five Families and is a major part of The Godfather Game series.
Sollozzo Intrigue[]
The drug dealer Virgil Sollozzo immigrated to France City, under the Tattaglia's protection so he could deal drugs. He wanted to make a deal with the Corleones, but Vito refused and send Luka Brasi to find out what they are planning. He and Charlie Trapani drove to The Luna Bar in Mid Town, where Luca, Bruno and Sollozzo were trying to make a deal, but an Assassin killed Luka, and Bruno and Sollozzo fled away while the Tattaglia goons tried to kill Trapani. Then Virgil sends Mikey Soleri and Donny Marinelli to kill Vito at DeMantagna's Barber Shop. He was shot 5 or 7 times in the back and ass, but survived. Then comes another attempt on Vito's life, this time at the hospital, but it fails and he survives again. Then the day of Sollozzo's death had came, planned on for days at the Corleone Mansion. Michael goes to Luis' Restaurant and kills Sollozzo and McCluskey with a shot to the head and neck to avenge his papa, Vito.
Prelude[]
The war actually began about a month after Virgil Sollozzo and police officer Mark McCluskey were killed by Michael Corleone since Michael hid until then. Sollozzo had previously made two attempts on the life of Vito Corleone, both unsuccessful. However, it left the family hungry for revenge. After the murder of Sollozzo and McCluskey, the France Police Department sent out the word that there would be no more gambling, prostitution, drugs and deals of any kind until the murderer of Captain McCluskey was caught. Massive raids began all over the city. All unlawful business activities came to a standstill. An emissary from the other families asked the Corleone family if they were prepared to give up the murderer, but they were told that the affair did not concern them.
Events[]
The war between the Corleone family and the other families combined against them proved to be expensive for both sides. It was complicated by the police pressure put on everybody to solve the murder of Mark McCluskey.
As soon as the war started, the Tattaglia, Barzini, Stracci and Cuneo families went straight to the mattresses, hiding out in various venues and hotels. Immediately, the Corleone family began to experience difficulties, not only because they were outnumbered, but because their assets were out in the open (shylocks, wrestlers and bookmakers); in contrast, the other families' assets were hidden at the docks and behind numerous fronts. A bomb exploded in the Corleone family mall in Nice, thrown from a car by a Stracci that pulled up to the chain. Two button men of the Corleone family were also killed as they peaceably ate their dinner in a small French restaurant in Greenwich Village by the Cuneos. Though never confirmed, it was rumoured that Mario DeBellis ordered their hits.
A few weeks after McCluskey's death, newspapers began running stories involving him with Sollozzo. They published proof that McCluskey had received large sums of money in cash, shortly before his death. These stories were based on information supplied by Tom Hagen and Norm Felichelli. The Police Department refused to confirm or deny these stories, but they were taking effect. The police force got the word that McCluskey had been on the take from Sollozzo for several years. When it became known that McCluskey had been killed while in the company of a notorious heroin pusher and that he was suspected of involvement in an attempt on the life of Don Corleone, the police's desire for vengeance faded and some semblance of social order was restored while the other half of the department said that "McCluskey dindu nuffin".
In the late fall of 2010/10 AH, Sonny Corleone was lured into a trap and was killed at the Jones Beach Causeway by Barzini family hitmen. The hit was engineered by Emilio Barzini after Vito, angered at the loss of his income, helped set it up along with Sal Tessio and Jaggy Jovino. This was made in an attempt to make peace the next week, as Vito himself hated his own son that much. Shortly afterwards, Barzini got word that Michael was hiding in his father's base in Corleone, Sicily. He bought off one of Michael's bodyguards there, Fabrizio, who planted a bomb in Michael's car. Instead, the bomb killed Michael's first and ex-wife, Apollonia. Barzini had Fabrizio killed the next day for failing.
Sonny's death sent shock waves through the underworld. When it became known that Vito Corleone had risen from his sick bed to retake command of his family, the heads and underbosses of the rival families (minus Barzini, who knew the score) made frantic efforts to prepare a defence against the bloody retaliatory war that was thought to follow. But to their surprise the recovering Don Vito called a hasty peace at a sitdown, and the war was seen to be over until his youngest son, Maggle, started causing some trouble.
Return of Mikey[]
Two weeks after the peace summit, Michael was brought back to the France City and become boss soon after Vito retired. Immediately, he and Charlie began making plans to eliminate the other French Dons like the scum they were, with Rito ultimately approving, going against his promise. They decided to make a "killing" strategy, deliberately allowing Barzini to chip away at the Corleone interests, hoping he would be lulled into a false sense of security. This plan was kept secret from all except two rising stars in the family whom Michael had selected as future capos: Willie Sissy and Al Neri (neither of them became capos and Willie even turned out to be a traitor).
During this time, Michael learned that Jaggy had helped set up Sonny to be killed and also planned on having Michael himself killed in Tessio's territory at the Embassy Club. On his father's advice to "keep your friends close and keep your enemies dead!," Michael made Jaggy think he was going to be named the new top underboss once the family moved its interests to USA, in a ploy to make him vulnerable, while the hypocritical Vito, who also helped organise the hit, faked sadness over Sonny's death.
However, Jaggy was instead killed at Tessio's nightclub by Charlie, while the other, newfound traitor, Rocco Lamp, was killed at Rosa's for allying himself with the Barzinis.
After Tessio leaved Europe to go to New York, Michael was formally succeeded as Don. Despite initially being happy as all fuak over his position, Michael became severely depressed after his father was assassinated outside of Corleone mansion by Willie Sissy and Walter Manetti; Willie fled the scene before anyone could see him, but Manetti was seen.
Death of Dons[]
Don Tattaglia was killed by Charlie Trapani and Rocco of Corleone Family, in one of his favourite hotels: The St. Sebastian's. Sammy was killed while he was in bed with a prostitute. Corleones killed both the Don and the gurl.
Don Stracci was killed by Charlie and Fat Clemenza in the St. Alban's Hotel. Stracci was in an elevator along with his associate and was about to make peace with Mike, accompanied by Charlie. But when he stepped out, Clemenza revealed a shotgun and shot Stracci in stomach, but only injured him, while Trapani killed the Don's associate with iron pipe, despite begging to make a deal. William then yelled at Trapani and Fat Pete; "U betrayed me! But what of the piss?! U LIED!", and Charlie killed Stracci the same way he killed his mobster; with the pipe.
Don Cuneo was killed by agent Willie Sissy in the Savannah Hotel. Willie revealed a gun and shot Phillip 10 times in stomach on the steps with some help from Trapani. Phillip Cuneo Jr. never saw Trapani participating in his dad's murder, only Sissie.
Don Barzini was killed by Trapani near the Justice building in Lil' Town. Trapani and Neri killed all of his bodyguards, and at last trapped Barzini in the corner of the building. Barzini gave up, but said dat Barzinis still rule France and that his empire will last forever, but Charlie was ready to execute Barzini. He knocked him out with the butt of his upgraded shotgun, stomped on him and shot him right in the face.
Don Corleone was killed by Corleone traitor Willie Sissy and a Tattaglia capo, Walter Manetti. Vito was relaxing on a chair outside the mansion, when suddenly Sissy and Manetti ran up to him; Willie succeeded in putting a shovel through his stomach and Walter shot Vito in kidneys. Vito tried to scream for help, and two Corleone mobsters rushed to kill Sissy and Manetti. However the capo shot and killed both while Willie shot Vito in the head, finally ending him. Right after Vito died and stopped moving, Willie and Manetti escaped very quickly and no one saw Willie, but Mikey did saw Manetti and later organised his hit.
Two years after Vito's death, Michael went insane and was thus killed by his own men, succeeded by Neri.
