- — Sweet to CJ when he shows his face at Beverly's funeral
Sean Sweet Jack Johnson is a central protagonist and older brother of Carl Johnson in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, based upon San Francisco in California, where the game takes place. He is the self-proclaimed and obnoxious leader of the Grove Street Families.
Info[]
Sweet was the leader of the Grove Street Families alongside his brothers, Brian and Carl Johnson, before the events of GTA: SA, sometime in 1986 or 14 BH. However, in 1987, Brian was killed by Ballas after losing a game of blackjack, and Sweets blamed Carl, resulting in Carl leaving Los Angeles behind to work for a clothing agency in New York, with ties to Bernard Arnault. Five years later, in 1992/8 BH, a green Jupiter entered the Grove Street cul-De-Sac in the dead of a quiet night and opened fire on the Johnson's house in a drive-by shooting, aiming to kill Sweet and put Big Smoke in charge. However, Sweets had been next door at the time, chilling with a butt-buddy, and hearing the gunfire, raced in to check on his mum, Beverly, only to find her brutally murdered by the drive-by, her body riddled with bullet wounds and tears streaming down her face. Sweet was forced to hold his sister Kendl from crying her heart out. A short while later, as emergency services raced to the Cul-de-sac, Sweet called Carl in the East while Kendl wept on the steps and told him the grim news that Beverly was dead while CJ was drinking some coffee at his boss's office.
In short order, Carl was on the next flight back to LA to attend Beverly's funeral as she was buried at the cemetery in Green Gross. He arrives there with BS who was at his house with a Baseball Bat, reunites with Sweet, Kendl, and Lance Wilson, but Sweet quickly gets on his back and butt over walking out on another funeral, still sore over Brian, resulting in Kendl storming off in frustration to go be with her boyfriend while Sweet pushes CJ down to the ground while Smoke sets the two apart. When Carl wonders what the heck happened while he was away, Sweet points out the graves of other Grove Street OG's who have been killed over the last five years, showing how badly the gang has declined and that CJ hasn't been giving a single dam ever since. Sweets then advises Carl to go back to New York, but Carly decides to stay.
As they head back to Grove Street the next day after hitting the eatery, two Ballas in a purple Panther suddenly round the corner to try and take Sweets and Carl out in a drive-by shooting. Sweet and CJ return fire, but Big Smoke and Wilson don't give much dams, much to Sweet's anger.
When their car is about to blow up and they are forced to jump out, Sweets, Carl, Ryder, and Big Smoke grab some BMX bicycles instead and pedal back to Grove Street, while still being pursued by the Ballas on skateboards and rickshaws. Once they reach the oil-smelly intersection, Sweet breaks off to lure the Ballas away, though the Ballas quickly realise the decoy and catch up to the others just as they are returning to Grove Street and Sweet rejoins them. The Panther finally gives up and retreats back to Ballas territory upon reaching the last intersection before the Grove Street cul-de-sac, not risking walking into an ambush by all the GSF waiting there, defending their home base, including OG Lock. Afterwards, Carl offers to stay permanently back in LA to help rebuild the GSF, despite large scepticism from Sweets, but Ryder claims to be okay with it later. Sweet accepts that and after Carl deals with Ryder trying to hold up the local Well Mart shop again, only to be chased off by the shotgun-wielding employees, Sweet asks for Carl's help with spraying over the gang tags with Grove Street's gang tag under the local bridge. Although not in the mood, CJ accepts as he needs to get back in Sweet's good grace. From there, Carl continues to help rebuild Grove Street's influence.
Some time later, thanks to Carl J.'s pretty efforts, Grove Street is back on its feet and stands even stronger, finally able to hold its own against Ballas and the Bastet Mob. Ready to take the fight to Jack the Puss' men, Sweet has the GSF goons load up and meet him under the John Tyler Intersection to have a showdown with Mr. Pumpkin's men after a tip-off from Big Smoke. Unknown to Sweet, the showdown was a trap and Johnson and his boys were outnumbered 66 to 17. When Sweets arrived, Rubberhead called up the LAPD CRASH and Sweets was detained while most of his boys, or at least those who resisted, were killed by the cops and Pumkin's men. Carl discovers through Kendl's boyfriend Cesar Vialpando, head of the Los Aztecas, that Big Smoke and Ryder had betrayed the Grove Street Families, siding with the Ballas, Bastets and LAPD CRASH, lead by Frank Tenpenny, when he sees the green Jupiter that was used to kill Beverly emerged from the same garage that Big Smoke, Ryder, Tenpenny, Ed Pulaski, James Hernandez, and a couple of Ballas emerge from. Horrified upon learning that Sweet is in grave danger, Carl has Cesar find Kendl and get her to safety while he goes to save Sweet and his homies from the trap, but is too late. Having no choice, Carl surrenders to the police and Tenpenny personally takes an interest in him. Sweet is arrested, incarcerated, and treated for his wounds in a prison hospital, but becomes a vital bargaining chip to Frankie, who threatens Carl with having Sweet transferred to a Ballas cell block to be raped and killed by the rival gang members if Carl does not do as he's told and stays away from Los Angeles, Big Smoke, Ryder and especially CRASH. Sweet remains in lockup without any food until Carl has returned to LA in force with retaking Madd Dogg's mansion from the Martinez Family with some help from the Red Dragon Triads. After meeting with Mike Toreno and having him as Sweet's lawyer, Mike orders CJ to do some dirty work for him so he doesn't get exposed to the press and in return, he'll do everything he can to keep Sweets from jail. However, Carl receives a phone the next day from Sweets saying he's being kept in prison and believes Mike Toreno to not be a lawyer of his word.
Death[]
Learning that CJ tried to use Mike Toreno to help him bust Sweets Johnson out of jail time, Frank Tenpenny has Sweets moved to a Ballas block where he is humiliated by given wedgies, being forced to drink toilet water, getting raped in the buttocks by Kane (a large, bi member of Ballas) and lastly, killed when three Ballas plus Kane beat him by throwing him against the wall and even smashing a brick across his head, cracking his head and entire skull. When the security guards finally arrive after the Ballas-paid security guy turns the cameras back on, it is too late and Sweet is already rotting in the Netherworld's Sitting Furnace, probably.
This saddens CJ a lot and he becomes severely depressed, but he is nevertheless still forced to work for CRASH, less he faces the same fate Sweets did. However, the good news for CJ is that with Sean's death, he can take over the reigns and rule the GSF.
