Richard McReary (1932-2000) was the father of Derrick McReary, Francis McReary, Gerald McReary, Patrick McReary, and Kate McReary, and the husband of Maureen O’Hara. He met his wife who also was from Ireland in Queens, New York City around 1954. His brothers named Peter McReary (older) and John McReary (younger) came later. By the mid 1960s, the McReary crime family was officially founded. Richard was the original don while Peter was the original lawyer and John was the original underboss. None of the four McReary brothers cared for their father at all as he abused all of them but left Kate alone. He was also a binge drinker. In 2000, he died from alcohol overdose. Additionally, both of his brothers died before him so Derrick, Patrick, and Gerald took over the organization.
