The Pinkerton Detective Agency (officially known as Pinkerton National Detective Agency) is a private security shebang, a detective agency for hire, and a major villain faction featured in Red Dead Redemption 2. They play on this Wiki kind of a similar role as the WV S.W.A.T Team does today, Spys and the Camheads.

In the game, the Pinkertons are private agents and security often hired by the U.S. Government and private companies (like Leviticus Cornwall and his corp.) to do their detective and spy work. Even at the beginning of the game they have set their sights set on outlaw gangs, such as Dutch's Gang and O'Driscoll Gang.
The Pinkertons (especially Larry Milton and Edgar Rose) appear many times in the game showing up to Arthur Morgan and then the entire Dutch's gang, offering them a deal of freedom in exchange for them handling them over their leader, Dutch van der Linde. This never succeeds and instead the agents decide to attack and kill the gang.
