- "We are a planet, a realm, ruled by the majority and victors only! A strong planet ruled by a new constitution! By the people, not by the selfish Elder Gods! Unfortunately, we are still clanged and forced to be under the "rule" of the diseased Multiverse Federation! For over aeons, the Elder Gods have falsely and blindly ruled the galaxy with pure stupidity and only for their own selfish ends! Caring not about how much the residents of the planets suffer, and should they, they'd consider that a gain. Even if the people of Earth suffer, the people they hold dearest. Lord Shinnok is a man who would treat all life equally. We are a mighty planet who was ironically created by the Gods themselves, and that has proven to be their biggest mistake. They fear us! We are a planet ruled by people, not by dictators! An empire devoted to the preservation of a only free society. Of a safe and secure society! We are a planet that will eventually save everyone and our rule will exist for over millenniums and millenniums!"
- — Ackermann's speech on his planet and on the Gods plus Multiverse Federation
- "In this world, wherever you tread the dead will rise! Fire shall come rain down from the skies to burn your soul to dust! All of your worst nightmares will come true here! You will experience endless torment, endless hatred, endless humiliation and suffering! Your flesh will rot, your blood shall boil! You will beg to be returned to the mortal coil, but that won't be happening! You will instead be forced to join us in scourging the Earth! Ending all life! You will bow down to the ruler of Darkness, King Chernobog, your lord of demise!"

The Netherworld (formerly known as the Never Never Land for many billions of years) is a planet in the Mortal Kombat series which was eventually merged into Redwoods own series and is now it's own world and in it's own lore on this Wiki and FANDOM. The Netherworld is the second name of Hell, so it is actually hell, also known as The Underworld, Never Land, Underground or Hades. It seems to resemble an eternal volcanic "continent", containing many volcanoes and lava pits. The area was also called Tartarus by Diamond Tiara once she arrived to the Netherworld, and it was also called this way in the biographies and endings for Mortal Kombat 4 and Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance. The Netheworld is also known to be hotter than Planck Temperature, approx. 1 millinillion by Celsium, but the magical powers of the world make it so that no one who arrives there gets their ases burnt. Netherworld was also a pseudo-communist under Shinnok state until Lord Chernobog fixed that.
The original name of the planet, the Never Never Land, came from the fact that torture never ended here and your soul forever stays cursed here. It's a never-ending torment for anyone who is destined to reside here after death. However, originally, before the planet got corrupted by Kazuya Mishima, Shinnok and other demons, the planet's name had a different meaning: the Never in it meant that the Land represented a supposed place of fantasy where nothing bad would ever happen.
About the Netherworld[]
The Netherworld appears to be like Outworld, a planet composed of thousands of different layers and mountains of flaming lava. After their deaths, deceased souls or entities who have committed major crimes in their lives descend into the Never Never Land to undergo endless torture (man, God is such a cruel creature). In fact, one cannot enter Hell without being evil or having a soul tainted with evil. Additionally, magic users and magical beings are slowly weakened while in this planet. It is an alternative, more generic name for Hell, and one of its former rulers was Kazuya Mishima, a Japanese fallen angel. It is also described as "the darkest region of reality", and is inhabited by demons, monsters, and beings of the purest evil.
Though exits from and entrances to the Never Land are very limited for obvious reasons, the world had quite a tumultuous history. Millions of years ago, the fallen Elder God Shinnok was banished here. After ages of imprisonment, he was able to break free, banning Kazuya in the process with the help from demon sorcerer Quan Chi. He restructured the planet to bear some resemblance to Earth, the world which he had long desired to make his own. He later used it as a staging ground for the invasion of Edenia, but found himself cast into the depths of the planet again after this invasion was foiled. The abandoned war machines of Shinnok were then put to good use by one of his former acolytes, Noob Sailbot.
Two locations within this planet include the Bridge of Death and the Prison of Souls. These are almost like the Di Yu in Chinese Mythology. The Prison of Souls is the Chamber of Grinding and so is the Slaughterhouse. Shinnok's Tower resembles that of Yan Wang's spire in Journey to the West.
In Mortal Kombat: Deception's Konquest mode, Shujinko arrives during the "Festival of Torture", in which dead bodies burn and inhabitants watch them and laugh at their suffering.
The Never Land is also known as the only planet that celebrates an Earth's holiday: Halloween while it despises Christmas (current version) with everything it's got.
Following the War on Seido and the Fate of Seido, the Never Land successfully merged Orderworld into itself, making it bigger for at least three or five Earths. Those Seidans who were not happy or content with living in Hell itself, were either instantly slaughtered or tortured to death.
After foolishly believing he was somehow powerful enough to conquer the planet, Fuhrer Olaf Tutchenko and his top minions, like Ivan Ernst Reinhern, Ivan Chernobov (nothing to do with Chernobog at all) and the newly-arrived Red Skull found themselves getting cooked and burnt up in the deepest regions of the planet for even daring to stand up to Shinnok's rule. Skull and the Ivans were put into an iron bull like contraption and a rushing fire was lit under it, burning the three alive for weeks until their souls and bodies were finally extinguished, while Olaf was flayed alive on a cross that was later shifted into lava pits, only to be brought back up with the kraut begging for mercy, but the Netherworld government granted him none! Then Olaf was suffering, barely still alive on the said cross, blood dripping from his burnt eyes and maggots crawling all over him and eating him until he finally died.
When the Demon Lord Chernobog decided to take the planet from Shinnok, like how Olaf tried before him, he actually succeeded and had Shinnok removed from power after months of fighting. Even some of the Brotherhood of Shadow mooks betrayed him, siding with the Black God when they saw that Chernobog was no joke. Shinnok was dethroned and thrown into a lava pit where he was suffering until he was bailed out again by his dear mom, Queen Almeida. When Shinnok was resurrected in the underground tunnels of the Netherworld, Almeida explained to him that Chernobog was too powerful to be destroyed, seeing how not even he was able to defeat Chernobog at all. Shinnok scoffed these worries and told her mom off, who angrily left the scene and told him to mind his tongue while Shinnok only blew her a raspberry. As of today, Shinnok is hiding in the temples he has left on the planet (well either that, or the underground, away from Chernobog's spies), scheming with his resurrected right-hand, Quan Chi, his return to power and conquering of the Multiverse Federation and all that exists. Chernobog is aware of this, but not too worried, claiming that if he could defeat Shinnok then, who is to say he can't do it a second time?
Following Chernobog's success, he even managed to merge Outworld into Hell, making the planet big af and even as of today he rules supreme and is considered lot better than Shinnok ever could be and even nicer, if that's possible. However, Chernobog is twice as cruel to his minions if they fail him than Shinnok was and he only upgraded his torture methods.
King Chernobog was arguably the most favoured leader amongst the people, sinners, monsters and demons of Hell. Despite his steady ruleship, Shinnok's silent followers sought to regain the fiery world and control everything within it, restoring it to its former glory. Those who didn't like Black God's rule, like Noob Sailbot and Smoke, gathered some some onis and demons that also disagreed with Chernobog's rule and the two decided to overthrow Chernobog. Those demons were vindictive and eager to sow chaos. Noob-Smoke realised this for what it was: opportunity. With Noob using his cunning charisma and Smoke performing his dance moves, the two rallied their followers and forged their own faction to counterattack Chernobog's rule, causing a fuaking civil war to breakout between Noob, Smoke and their new allies and Chernobog and his dark cronies. After a war which lasted for only about two months, Noob-Smoke and their fellow demons lost and the two were destroyed for rebelling against Chernobog, as were all those who resisted his powers.
The fact that they lost two of their top devoted followers, made Shinnok and Quan step up their game and now Shinnok needs Chi to fetch him some artefacts he needs to regain his powers over the Netherworld and continue his conquest of the planets. With the once again undead puppet Scorpion at their side, Shinnok believes that Chernobog's time to fall is near and that his desire to rule all that exists will soon come to fruition.
Native Species[]
In a generic sense, many demons and spectres are native to the Never Never Land in that human beings can be transformed into them when their essences descend deep into hell, but it is unclear if Hell hosts any original life. It should also be noted that the inhabitants of this planet look more human than they are, because the planet's magical nature conceals their demonic nature. Once they leave the Never Never Land, they may start to decompose and rot. Like Chaosworld inhabitants, some Neverlanders tend to speak backwards or an ancient demonic language unknown to us. There also exist schools on this planet where they learn and study such languages.
A specific subset of demons, called the Onis, is thought to be native to the Never Land. They vary a lot in terms of appearance, stature and colour, as is evidenced by Drahmin and Moloch, and appear to be able to communicate with other lifeforms but they prefer to torture them instead. Their prime state of being appears to be one of unquenchable rage.
Species born of humans and demons, like Succubuses and Incubi, are known to reside in the Never Land as well, where they tempt and manipulate other residents to have sex with them, only to kill them in return if they don't like them.
Dismembered humans are also seen here, presumably from the Chamber of Dismembering and can walk around freely, as do numerous banshees.
Some anthropomorphic animal-like beings also inhabit this planet. Some are even a part of it's "royalty".
Notable residents[]
Native[]
- Quan Chi's origin is not known other than the fact that he used to be an Oni, but one of the Never Land's demons claims that Quan Chi is a demon now thanks to his sorcery, originated from Hell and is a member of the Brotherhood of Shadow.
- Ashrah's origins are unknown. Once an assassin in service of Quan Chi, she found a sword that slowly guided her to the light side.
- Moloch is also an Oni, but unlike Drahmin, he is more ape-like than mummy.
- The Never Never Land is also home to the Brotherhood of Shadow, led by Noob Sailbot and Smoke until their destruction.
- The Scarlet Brood is a vampire cult consisting of demons and onis who work for Chernobog and are led by Shaft.
- Sereena is a demon of the planet, although little is known about her past. She was once a personal assassin of Quan Chi and served the Brotherhood of Shadow, but turned against the clan.
- Kia and Jataaka were also hot demon assassins, who served Quan Chi, alongside Sereena. While they remained loyal to Quan Chi, Sereena did not.
- The Rat King is one of the monarchs of Hell, with a big grudge against the Elder Gods themselves.
- Clurkicus was created by Lord Shinnok himself to serve as one of his most loyal followers and has been known on numerous occasions to even be more evil than his Master himself. However, Clurkicus has since been destroyed by Azazel's minions, never to return again.
- Count Orlok is another creation of the Dark God, only that he was created by Shinnok's right-hand Quan Chi and was then send to Earth to spread a deadly, bubonic plague to kill millions of people, a plan that sadly failed. Under Chernobog, Orlok returned to Hell to serve as one of his ministers.
- Lord Antichrist is yet another creation of Shinnok who was sent to Earth and is the supposed Antichrist who will control the Earth alongside his creator when he finally takes it over. Well, either him or the current leader of the Netherworld.
- Drahmin was once a human-looking landlord who was presumably killed by his own victims, and transformed into a caricature of his former self by unknown powers, until he finally became an Oni. He may have been at the fifth level of Hell, seeing that he is somewhat eaten by maggots or he might have been skinned in Hell as well.
- Lucius Wagner was also created by Shinnok in Hell but was born on Earth to ironically, christian parents. He was later summoned back to Hell by the then rulers Clurkicus and Ackermann in order to aid them and succeed Adolf as Never Land's new master.
- Amon is a demon of Hell and one with high authority as is King Belial.
- Kochal is a purposed demonic god and the Coin Lord of Hell. He is one of the most powerful beings living in the Netherworld.
- Lord Chernobog is the new and current ruler of Hell after defeating Shinnok with ease.
- Isaac Fillmore was the second son of Shinnok, who was born on Earth as well to atheist parents. He currently works as a businessman on Earth and plans on summoning the Antichrist himself for his takeover of the planets.
- Lucius Heinous VII is a shrewd, demonic businessman in Hell and a CEO of a place called the Miseryville. Despite ruling an entire city, Lucius also has ambitions to take over the planet one day.
- Beezy J. Heinous is Lucius' oldest son and a very lazy one at that. He doesn't contribute much to the planet.
- Heloise. Although this has never been confirmed, Heloise is probably a teenage demon who runs her own mafia on Hell, rivalling Lucius Heinous. She appears to be way too intelligent for a human.
- HIM, also known as His Infernal Majesty, is a demon of great powers that managed to move to Earth, to America, to cause havoc in a place called Townsville in Louisiana.
Not native[]
- Noob Sailbot is the altered form of the elder Sub-Zero, after he was murdered by Scorpion in retribution for his own killing. The mass corruption in his soul caused him to transform into a humanoid Wraith based on his reincarnation in the next life as he is not in a very low level.
- Reiko was originally introduced as a member of the Brotherhood of Shadow, presumably a demon as well. However, his exact origin is revealed as Outworld in his trading card video and according to Shao Kahn.
- Scorpion became a vengeful spectre in the Hell after he was killed by the elder Sub-Zero (Bi-Han). Unlike most creatures in the Never Land, Scorpion is neither evil nor good and can somewhat withstand the torturous planet better than others stating that he is not at a very low level in Hell. In fact, it has been stated that his powers increase there as of Deadly Alliance. His type of reincarnation is based on the Chinese belief that a dead person with unfinished business comes back to settle scores with opponents and can't be easily put to rest. Ironically enough, Scorpion is actually Japanese.
- Shinnok was once a God, descended into Hell because he wanted to take over Earth without relinquishing his status as an Elder God. However, he did overthrow Kazuya Mishima with Quan Chi's assistance and became supreme ruler of the dark Hell as stated in the MKM: Sub-Zero manual, but then his side-story in Armageddon may recon it otherwise, but not at all. Today he is the ruler of the place no more.
- Smoke was brought to the Never Never Land by Noob Sailbot. It is suspected he has also become tainted with evil after his new master and buddy altered his nanotechnology.
- Darkseid was sentenced to an eternity in the Never Land locked in chains after he was judged by the Gods at the end of Mortal Kombat VS DC Universe. However, Shang Tsung, who desired the warlord's extraordinary power as his own, attempted to absorb Darkside's soul. Unfortunately for the sorcerer, Darkseid was able to reverse his spell instead allowing him to steal some of Shang Tsung's powers and break free of his bindings.
- Adolf Ackermann is a human from Earth, but his crimes in life had made him more evil than ever and was descended to the Never Land. From 15th of April 2015 to 2018/18 AH, he ruled Hell instead of Shinnok, as Shinnok was "killed" by Raiden. He, unlike Shinnok, hasn't change Never Land a bit.
- Umberto Dixmor was a very evil and heartless man and supreme ruler of the Dixmor Project. He was thrown into hell by Domenico Von Crane, friend of Giuseppe Travonni, Project's own puppet, at the court where Umberto was about to be ratted out by him and he was thrown here. Now in hell, Umberto is planning all sorts of ways to escape the Never Land, get back to Earth, and get his revenge on Travonni and Von Crane. Rumour has it Umberto was making alliances with the former rulers of hell, Clurkicus and Ackermann to help him get out of hell, but they refused to help him and turned him into their slave at Travonni's Carnival, saying he is "not worthy of being a Dixmor". Next time when Travonni came to hell, Umberto falsely begged for his mercy to let him free and take him with him back to Earth. The vampire hunter refused, and Umberto was enraged and is still suffering in Hell, this time under Chernobog.
- The Project is pure evil and also owns many stocks and buildings deep down in Hell. They use it and them for their further corruption of Earth. Shinnok, Adolf Ackermann and Clurkicus were helping them with this plan, and it is said they will succeed with it in 32 AH with the Never Land emerging on Earth and Heavens and the take over and corruption of Earth and the whole Universe will begin.
- Giuseppe Travonni aka Blood Roach is kinda evil but he is not exactly a resident of the Netherworld, he just owns many stuff here, like: Travonni's Carnival, Blood Roach's HQ, Witching Well's End, etc.
- Sheriff Berringer got here two times: first time when he was killed along with his posse by a troll in Augsburg's forest. Second, he was killed by infamous Piero the Scavenger. He was and still is a big-s pain in everyone's s, and he even killed the mayor of his village for the lulz. His whole anger was drenched out by Kenneth (except one drop that was used to hit Purple Diamond and accidentally piss off Travonni), but he wants only one thing: redemption of his sins and have a rightful place in Heavens. But it is revealed that he used this kind of goal to con the Elder Gods, via false absolution and eventually, but his misogyny and lust were drenched by Marco the Clopper, his former mentor who made him a vampire and a werewolf. And for the third time, he was totally injured and slaughtered by everyone in Hell, and had been burned in Von Crane's own crematorium. Now he serves Tweedledee again in Hell, and has to suck everyone's cok and is their slave, like Umberto was before him.
- Henry Hartman got here after getting shot by recruit Leonard Lawrence. He then served Adolf Ackermann and Clurkicus, mostly by training their warriors like he did on Earth. During Olaf's takeover of Hell, Henry took refugee and survive. He now trains Chernobog's minions.
- Tweedledee is yet another human who got to Hell thanks to the evil deeds he made while he was alive on the planet Orinion. He now owns lots of land in the Netherworld.
- Olaf Tutchenko was a German dictator and the cause of World War II who was descended into Hell thanks to his false genocide of Outworlders.
- Kazuya Mishima was once an angel in Heavens until he was thrown out and banished to the Netherworld due to his bullying of the thunder God, Raiden.
- Joe Valirover was a Russian dictator who descended into Hell after his death thanks to his enormous genocides he committed whilst ruling Soviet Union.
- Murkoff Dixmor sometimes visits this place to buy drugs from Beezy.
- King Baal; once a revered Pagan deity on Earth, the decline of his followers made him ascend to Hell where he became one of its monarchs.
- Lord Asmodeus was once an angel in Heavens until he got dethroned by Gait and transcended into the Netherworld to become the Prince of Lust.
- King Moloch, similarly to Baal, was once a Pagan deity of abortion on Earth until he transcended or ascended to the Netherworld instead where he now owns his own stocks of the trade.
- Paul Barrel was once a human from Earth until he died from a stroke and got send to Hell where he now continues his occupation of collecting souls to power himself up.
- William Calvin Morgan recently died and his soul transcended to Hell, where he now searches for some new fools he will con into taking his loans. He is also searching for Shinnok to help him in his nefarious plans.

Relationships with other Planets[]
As one could expect, the Netherworld could be said to be the biggest threat to the Heavens, being its polar opposite. Most inhabitants of other planets fear the Never Never Land and avoid contact with it if at all possible. Under Shao Kahn's rule in Outworld, however, alliances have been formed between certain of its denizens and those of the Never Land, at least it was so back when Shinnok ruled it, under Olaf's rule, however, Outworld and Hell were bitter and worst enemies. Today, under the Black God, Hell and Outworld seem to be in a neutral state. Other than that Hell has literally no allies, it is the place of eternal damnation after all. The Earth's Dixmor Project is this world's servant and closest ally, tho, as they makes deals with it's demons and they could be close friends too, personally. The same can possibly apply to the Order of the Beast as well.
Trivia[]
- The base area of the planet contains a city built by sorcerers, called Nekros, as a source of protection against the environment which drains life energies from the living.
- Within the Never Never Land are Soul Stones, artefacts which can temporarily give energy to travellers to survive in the hostile environment, like wizards.
- Shao Kahn was said to have many allies in the Hell, though no names are mentioned as who are his allies exactly. Ironically, Kahn invaded this planet in Mortal Kombat 3 and he had no allies here during Olaf's rule.
- It is often said that only those with an evil taint can access the Netherworld. However, some "good" individuals were capable of accessing the planet as well: Like Steven, Shujinko and Nightwolf. Then again, "good" and "evil" is how you see it, really.
- It is seen that some demons dislike the harsh environment of Hell, as both Ashrah and Sereena desired to escape.
- On the contrary, the band The Dead South, who are Amish, claim that in the Netherworld they'll be in good company.
- Judging from concept art, the Netherworld wasn't always just fire and brimstone. Long before Kazuya Mishima and even Shinnok had corrupted it, Never Land bared a more "earthly" appearance, with waterfalls and pirate ships. However, there were still deadly jungles and skull islands. It's name also ironically referred to being a place where nothing bad ever happened, before it got referenced to the never-ending torment.
- If you ever, by any chance, find yourself in the Never Land, just show the rulers there some courtesy, some sympathy and some taste. Use all your well-learned politesse and politeness or they'll lay your fuaking soul to waste!
