Neil "Neary" O'Leary is a major character in the American Crime Tales series who appears as a major character in Tales from Queen City: The Ballad of Sean Killian. He is voiced by Harold Kramer in The Ballad of Sean Killian. He is the second oldest of the O'Leary siblings is portrayed as the leader of the O'Leary clan following the death of his father in 2004, and John turning down the roll as the eldest son.
Background[]
Neil was born in 1971 in Flannigan, Queen City to Irish-American parents, Darren and Sheila O'Leary . His granfather had founded the O'Leary Clan after arriving in America from Ireland years ago and after his death, his father became leader of the Clan. As a child, Neil was very violent towards his siblings, particularly his brother, Frank whom he fought with the most, and these fights would often become very violent, on one occation, Neil put Frank's head through a wall. Neil was constantly getting into trouble at school and was kciked out of seven schools before finally finding one where he stayed. While in middle school he would sell marijuana that his brother, John grew in the family house's attic with his brothers, Sean and Patrick helping him. In high school, Neil would go along as a spotter for John's small heists and would share the profit from the heist take. Neil grew to fully hate his brother, Frank after he joined the police force and became a QCPD officer, beliving him to be worse than the criminals in the family due to his police corruption.
Events of The Ballad of Sean Killian[]
By 2007, Neil is the boss of the O'Leary Clan as his father died in 2004 and John refused to lead the Clan. Neil is first introduced to protagonist Sean Killian by John Callahan , a local bomb maker and Killian's best friend whom he fought with in the provisonal IRA in Ireland with Neil's cousin, Quinn . Neil serves as a huge ally to Killian as he, Killian, Callahan, and the rest of the Irish mob help to defeat the Russian mob after they murdered Quinn. Neil helps Killian weaken the Russians by pulling off several small heists agaionst them and eventually Neil, Sean , John, and family friend, Robert Keane rob a large scale casino successfully. During the robbery, Keane is killed and his body is indentified, revealing that the Irish mob was behind the heist which provokes a war between the Irish and the Russians and Neil's Irish mob gets help from theGambinuchi Crime Family thanks to Killian and Callahan. Neil leads his mob through the war but eventually, Neil and John begin to fight more and more and they become more violent to one another. In the final mission, after Callahan is killed, Killian arrives to be greeted with Neil and several other men who all help him take down Yuri Shelnov . After the final mission, Neil is seen sitting and drinking at the final party at the O'Leary household, he looks up and his brother John sits down and hugs him, the two brothers put aside their differences and enjoy the party of drinking and celebrating. It is assumed he continued to run the O'Leary family afterward.
Personality[]
At first Neil tries to intimidate Sean Killian to assert dominance until Killian punches him, after this he is much nicer to Killian and through the story his personality becomes warmer and more friendly. Neil through the story shows a distain for his brothers, John and Frank, John because they don't get along and Frank because he is a cop. Despite him claiming he hates Frank, Neil is extremely saddened by Frank's death during the story and Jane tells Killian that despite his open hatred for him he still loved his brother. After Ftank dies, Neil becomes quieter but as the story goes on he becomes happier again. Towards the end of the story, Neil fights with his brother John violently but they eventually make up in the final scene of the game and Neil seems content with his life.
