Native Americans were the indigenous people of North America. During the time period of the Red Dead series they were also referred to by the derogatory term "Indians", and primarily lived on reservations. Native Americans appear as minor characters in Red Dead Redemption and play a larger role in Red Dead Revolver and Red Dead Revolver 3dn edition. They also play a crucial role in Rootin' Tootin', Cowboy Shootin'.
Revolvers[]
The main protagonist of Red Dead Revolver, Red Harlow, is half Native American by birth (his mother, Falling Star, being a member of the Red Wolf Tribe). His cousin, Shadow Wolf, also plays a large role in the story. Other Native Americans include Chief Running Moon, Shadow Wolf's grandfather, and the chief of the Red Wolf tribe, and Grizzly, the leader of the Black Elk Tribe, who is killed later by Shadow Wolf. A few Natives can also be seen in Bad Bessie's gang.
In 3dn edition, Jack Marston's friend and one of the main characters, Nastas, is a Native American. One of the main villain Natives in the game is known as Helaku.
Redemption[]
A large number of Native Americans left the reservations, and some joined Dutch van der Linde's new gang in West Virginia, where they commit various crimes until Marston and the American Army attack Dutch's hideout and kill most of the Natives left.
A Native American known as Nastas helps Marston with a couple of Professor Harold McDougal's missions after you rescue him from the Beach of Serendipity with Archer Forman and Edgar Rose, although he gets shot by his fellow Native Americans for purely scientific purposes and for being a traitor to his kind.
Because Harold McDougal treats Native Americans like savage, different and ignorant people, the Native Americans hated him and tried to hunt him down with Dutch before he left the West, although John helps him get safely on the train to Yale in "The Prodigal Son Returns (To Yale)".
Native Americans can be played in multiplayer as part of the Indian's Gang category in the outfitter.
Native Americans can be found just about anywhere in West Virginia aside from Gold Town, and are participants in many of the criminal random events. This even includes the nightwatch job in Gold Town. Oh, also, after Dutch's death, Chief Mangan takes over the leadership of the tribe.
Trivia[]
- The only Native Americans that can be seen doing normal activities are Hassun, Lang and Chogan. they can sometimes be found at Crystal Camp playing five-finger fillet or helping out at the very specific Union Camp.
- They are also the only friendly Native Americans, however Chogan, along with Hassun, will be hostile if the player threatens him.
- Nightwolf, a character from the Mortal Kombat series is also a Native American. However, he plays no role in RD series. His role in general however, is still rather important for humanity, as he was one of the chosen warriors of Raiden, chosen to defend it from Outworld and its emperor, Shao Kahn, aka Cock.
- There is a German band named Crows that sing about Native Americans and how the white man stole their land away from them.
