- "Hello there, dear boy. We've been expecting you. You can call me Mr. Barrel. I heard from o'l Dudley that you'll help us get back a certain fern... we lost, yes? Hehe, I would hope so, my boy. And of course, welcome to the manor."
- — Mort Barrel when Frederick Newbie first shows his face at his estate
Mortimer Barrel is a major character that appears in most of the Sims series, although he is absent during Sims 3 on Moonlight Bay, although his extended family ain't. Born in southern US, in Opelika, Alabama, his parents moved to Australia sometime before the Outworld War broke out and Mort has been growing up there ever since. Like most Barrels, he grew up in a mansion with its private graveyard.
He is the cousin of Paul Barrel and Jerry Lawler from WWE, thus the godfather of the Brothers of Destruction. Despite this, he never appears in any WWE series.
Info[]
Born on 24 April, 1937, he grew up without a father figure for the first few years as World War II was still ranging about, where his father, John J. Barrel, fought against the Germans in the Third Reich and the resurrected warlord, King Leon the Conqueror.
As a child, he excelled in school and aspired to become an undertaker, like his father before him and when they moved to Australia, Mortimer meet Bella Goth, with whom he quickly fell in love.
Building their own estate or manor, Morty and Bella got their first child, a daughter: Lilith, born sometime in December. Mortimer likes to spend his days playing chess, reading books, like grimoires, horror novels or any Lovecraftian sith, water the plants, and mourn at the tombstones. At the said tombstones, his dad is buried, John and his wife, aka Mort's mom. Although an undertaker, Mortimer grew tired of the usual routine after a while and started to try his luck in science as well, where he became a chemist at the Shiny Things Lab, owned by Makino Nada and his boss, Vaughn Roy. Mortimer never went quite along with his boss and was actually trying to sabotage his lab on numerous occasions. He once succeeded in burning the place up, but unfortunately Roy survived with injuries.
During the events of Bustin' Out (some nuts), the supposed hero, Fred Newbie, meets Morty and his wife at Goth Manor, which has a ghost problem. In the intro of the game, Mortimer can also be seen playing air hockey with the Grim Reaper. The Grim Reaper scores a goal, disappointing o' Barrel. In the game, his brother, Jamie Barrel, has been killed by Mortimer out of revenge for reasons unknown as has been Bella's sister, Marta, and now the two haunt the mansion, wishing to get some revenge on Old Barrel. This would assume, along with the attempt on Roy's life, that Mortimer is not above killing people if they get in his way, family or otherwise. Mortimer and his wife will also need to get a stolen weed fern returned to them. Dudley Basillio stole it so he could get high for an hour or two, but Mort wanted it back. Even though Mort is known to be tough on his enemies and those who piss him off, he seemed to spare Dudley. This is probably due to Dudley being a freaking Basillio and killing him would make the Barrels be in some deep crap. On another hand, perhaps Mortimer is just so close to Dudley, more than he was with Jamie. At the manor, he spends most of his time playing the organs, particularly Toccata and Fuga by Bach. Both of his kids are absent during the game, as they're off in college somewhere, probs. In order for Fred to successfully deal with the Goth manor's ghost problem however, he'll need a Ouija board and start a seance with Jamie and Marta, which will take place for about an hour, before the two spirits' vendetta against Mort and Bella cools down. The ghosts are then gone forever.
Trivia[]
- He looks a bit similar in appearance to Carl Cornet and Joseph Fernandez.
