Johnny serves a good friend to Geno and appears to be a very compationate person as he cries when he and his friends must kill J.D and also when Christopher is murdered by his own men. Despite this, Johnny is shown to be extremely loyal and violent when the occasion calls for it such as when he severaly beats Matthew Petrulio after they capture him and when they bludgenPatrick O'Grady to death at Freddy's, going along on the car ride to bury him afterward. During the temporary truce with the Fontanas, Johnny is shown to be very happy and he and the Gambinuchi members celebrate the night before. After everyone leaves, Johnny and Geno have a deep and emotional discussion about death and each others thoughts on it.

The next day, Johnny is sent with a suitcase of cash to an apartment in the Banger district in Queen City where he is met by Sonny Fontana and two of his men, underboss, Ray Braco and capo Ronald Bartelli . Johnny presents the cash but Sonny betrays him and shoots Johnny once in the throat with a silenced pistol. Johnny dies and Sonny and his men leave, blowing the building up as they leave. After Johnny's death everyone is saddened, particularly Geno and this sends the game into its final chapter.
