Johnathan "John" O'Leary is a major character in the American Crime Tales series who appears as a major character in Tales from Queen City: The Ballad of Sean Killian and a grave stone character in Agent Under Fire . He is the oldest of the O'Leary siblings and is generally portrayed as the most compassionate and smart of the siblings, often being the one to plan out heists and other criminal activities due to his high intelligence and ways of strategy.
Background[]
John O'Leary was born in 1966 in Flannigan, Queen City to parents, Darren and Sheila . His grandfather, Redmond had created the O'Leary Clan years ago and made his father boss upon his death. As a child he was constantly trying to break up his brothers who would fight constantly, attempting to bring peace to the disfuctional O'Leary household. As a teenager he became very different from his family, becoming a regular smoker of marijuana, expressing anti government, socialist, and anarchist views, and listened to a variety of music, from peaceful music to hevay metal. Despite being quite different, John participtaed in criminal activities in the name of the O'Leary Clan such as theft and grand theft auto and small scale robberies. John, during the 1980's and 1990's was the front man and lead guitar player of the punk rock band called The Lad's. During his time as a band leader, he would lead the group to perform at several anti war protests and they would play many concerts in the Queen City underground music scene. During this time, John would regularly come home drunk or high and for several years, and eventually, his brothers got into the same stuff he was into and became regular attendes to his concerts. John was known to be a very compassionate person who cared about his family and friends even partialy raising Robert Keane , even after his brother decided to become a police officer. In 1998, the band broke up after the drummer died of a heroin overdose and but John would continue to play guitar and attend protests into the 2000's. In 2004, his father died and John was offered the role of boss but declined, giving it to his brother, Neil.
Events of The Ballad of Sean Killian[]
In 2007, John is living at the O'Leary household and living with his brothers, Neil and Patrick and his sister, Jane. John plays a central role in the story as he works with protagonist, Sean Killian and his brothers to help weaken the Russian mob by pulling off several small heists as well as a large bank heist. John frequently argues with Neil and at one point they become very violent towards each other following Neil's disregard for Robert's life as he had been killed during the bank heist. John serves as a voice of reason with Sean throughout his journey in the game and always gives Sean wise advice. During the game's events, Sean Killian comes to know John quite well through "Hangout Sessions" where Sean and John will sit and either drink, walk in the park, or smoke marijuana and talk about various things, eventually becoming good friends.
Death[]
After the events of The Ballad of Sean Killian, John's depression worsened. John began drinking more heavily after this as well as doing harder drugs, and he eventually died of a heroin overdose on September 9, 2009. His grave stone can be seen in Agent Under Fire.
Personality[]
John was always the smartest and kindest of the brothers but at the same time gained a fierce reputation as an enforcer in his father's crime family and as a master heist planner, pulling off several heists during the 1980's and 90's, never being caught once. John was always concerned with his family's well being and was married and deeply in love once but she died in the 1990's afterbeing hit by a drunk driver, this had a signifigant impact on John as he never fully recovered from her death. John remained as happy as he could despite his heartbreak and would half raise Robert Keane as his parent's abandoned him at age 5. John is shown to also have a severe temper when he is angry such as seen during the bank heist mission and the following shootout. By 2007, John's personality hadn't really changed much since years previous.
