Big Shell's takeover started with Dead Cell kidnapping everyone on board and then quickly became inflitrated by Raiden and Snake (Disguised as a Terrorist and used alias as a Navy Seal).
Inflitration[]
On April 29, 2009, a WOLFHOUND unit disguised as a terrorist group calling themselves the Sons of Liberty seized control of the Big Shell during a routine inspection tour. The group enlisted the former special forces unit Dead Cell and Russian private army members, who were apparently being led by Solid Snake himself. The terrorists took nearly 30 people hostage, one of whom was the 44th U.S. President James Johnson, who had been on an inspection tour at the time. The Sons of Liberty's shadow demands were $30 billion, and they claimed that if their demands were not met, they would destroy the Big Shell. Not only would this ignite the crude oil in the Manhattan Harbor, but could also burn the chlorides used during the cleanup, creating high levels of dioxins that would wipe out the bay's ecosystem and become the worst environmental disaster in history. This was cover-up by WOLFHOUND trying to discover the patriots and Strike's attempt to get Raiden in the action. Strike made a fake website making a phantom news article of Snake and Otacon being a criminal. This was successful in all terms in order to protect Snake from the Patriots. The true leader Solidus Snake later turns rogue after learning about the True Patriots and what they can do. Ocelot is later poisoned by Liquid Snake during the mission. Vamp was a soldier of WOLFHOUND gone rogue. Emma Emmerich and Peter Stillman fall the terrorists while, Fatman falls to Raiden and Ames falls to a heart attack.
Battle in Arsenal Gear[]
During the Battle, Snake faked his betrayal in order to get inside and Raiden eventually joins Snake's side and helps him defeat the remaining terrorists. Fortune and Olga both fall to the poison minded former allies Solidus and Ocelot. Arsenal Gear is eventually disabled and scrapped by the patriots as well as hidden out of sight.
