- "General Ignacio Sanchez... Our country's "kind and generous" dictator. Everything comes from him. It is like a father who beats his son, and then the son takes his dog outside and rapes it."
- — Abraham Reys describing Sanchez like he is any better
General Ignacio Sanchez is a minor, mentioned character featured in Red Dead Redemption. He was mostly mentioned in second of the game, the Mexican Revolution, either in good or bad manner, depending on who you axe.
He is the tyrannical President of Mexico throughout the game, and represents most of the driving force behind the civil war between the Mexican Army and Reys' Rebels.
He succeeded Javier Diego as the General of the Mexican army and killed Porfirio Díaz to become President.
Info[]
Sanchez was a Mexican general who took control of Mexico sometime around 1888, one year prior to the game's setting in 1889/111 BH. According to early reports, he was declared General of the Mexican Army despite any military background, but he had the charisma the government lacked at the moment. Afterwards, he eventually became leader of Mexico after assassinating Porfirio Díaz. Afterwards, Sanchez made several speeches to the Mexican people, promising a new golden era for Mexico, and big changes aimed to benefit everyone, including the American immigrants, homosexuals and Chinese workers.
Sadly, most of these promises were empty, and once the people began to complain, Sanchez sent his the army to quell any uprisings throughout the country. One province that received much of Sanchez's support was Nuevo Paraíso, where large amounts of supplies and troops were entrusted to the territory's provincial governor, Colonel Allende and his forces. Even with all this social unrest going on, the people of the United States were made to believe that Sanchez was still committed in helping the Mexican people, not hindering them. The reasons for this were that Sanchez was presumably allied to the US President at the time, Nate Johnson. This was further supported when John Marston openly admitted that he thought Sanchez was a kind and gracious leader, and that the American people were praising his actions as was Nathaniel himself. After Abraham Reys and his rebels overthrew Colonel Allende, they marched on to Sanchez's residence in Mexico City a year later, and managed to overthrow him after a bloody siege which lasted for several hours. Like Allende, Sanchez was killed by Reys himself.
Trivia[]
- Ironically, as expected from a peasant like him, after taking power as the new President, Abraham Reys proved to be much worse than Sanchez ever was, despite claims that he planned on transforming Mexico into a democracy run by the people.
- There is a propaganda poster found in Nosalida and on his infobox depicting both Sanchez and Allende and what they represent to some people of Mexico; On that poster, he sits his lazy s on a bunch of skulls and pets a horned and horny Allende as his dog.
