Hugo Drax is the main antagonist of the 1955 James Bond novel by Ian Fleming called Moonraker and its 1962 film adaptation.
Biography[]
Hugo Drax was born May 24, 1922 in St. Petersburg, Russia. He was an arms dealer connected to the same Russian Mafia clan as Le Chiffre and Mr. Big. Half of his face was badly scarred from an incident in a gulag, an incident which allegedly also left him with amnesia. Because he still somehow managed to perform very well for his Russian Mafia clan, he became a very trusted and highly valued associate. In 1953, Hugo Drax discovered a new dangerous type of weapon called a Moonraker. It was essentially a ray gun like the type you see in sci-Fi movies, comics and TV programs only it was about the size of an assault rifle only much more powerful. It could make him and his Russian mob paymasters a fortune if they ever sold it. It was up to MI6 agent James Bond to stop him and his evil plot. Bond proved to become once again successful. Hugo Drax ended up dying from the effects of the Moonraker.
