The Heavens or just Heaven is a realm/planet in the Mortal Kombat video game series.
About Heavens[]
As its name suggests, Heaven is the planet where the gods reside, and the destination for the souls of those who have died as morally righteous beings. Nothing is known about this mysterious realm, except that it is one of the two planets that is infinite in space, the other one being its polar opposite, the Never Never Land. The realm can be accessed via a Soulnado or a portal. Scorpion's Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance ending says he was ripped apart by the purity of that realm, indicating that impure beings may be obliterated upon entering, however this doesn't seem to be the case for Hsu Hao.
Native species[]
Though questionable as it may be, the Elder Gods are considered to originate from the Heavens. The One Being's place of origin appears to be the universe itself, however. Not all gods came from Heavens, though.
Notable residents[]
- Raiden: God of Thunder, and a former Elder God.
- Fujin: God of Wind.
- Zaggot: God of Outworld.
- Gait: The boss God, ruled above other gods.
- Argus: God of Edenia.
- Shinnok: A fallen Elder God (now perhaps best known as God of Darkness).
- Kazuya Mishima: A former angel of this planet, cast down due to bullying of Raiden.
- Orak: Elemental God of Fire.
- Valentin: Yet another angel.
- Jin Kazama: Another angel cast down for reasons unknown. Apparently redeemed himself or is at least trying.
- Siegfried: Another angel who was send to Duro to stop Night Terror from succeeding in destroying the Heavens.
- Queen Almeida: The Goddess of Time and mother to two other Gods.
- Cetrion: The Goddess of Light, Fertility and Nature, the current ruler of Heavens.
- Azazel: The diamond demon God.
- Zeus: The Greek God of Thunder and King of Gods.
From the Mortal Kombat: Return of The Dragon King onward, Shao Kahn fooled a group of people called the Tuskens into believing that he is their god, not Azazel the diamond God. Some of the members of the Tusken culture reflect this worship of the Emperor.
Relationship with other Planets[]
Obviously, the Heavens' biggest threat comes from the Never Never Land, its polar opposite. While it doesn't get mentioned much in the games, there are hints that it seems to be in neutral relationship with other planets. It is considered paradise by the denizens of Earth, but the Never Land's citizens look down upon it, ironically, as a hellhole. Or at least they did until Cetrion and Queen Almeida crashed the Heavens with their combined might.
