"You see? There, you see!? That's when this German crap comes outta ya. Look, no offence, Tom, but an Italian lawyer would only listen to this negotiation sith if he had a sharp knife held on the other guy's throat. My father got Genco, Italian popular lawyer, me? I got a Nazi, probably ultranationalist too."
— Santino insulting Tom Hagen very much

Genco Abbandando was the first lawyer of the Corleone Family, and a childhood friend of Vito Corleone when he arrived to France.

Biography[]

Raised in Old Town, Genco worked at his father's grocery store from an early age.

In the 1990's/10's BH, Genco married Allegra, who bore him three daughters.

The Lawyer[]

When Vito Corleone became the new Don of the neighbourhood, he hired Genco to act as his lawyer, and named his front company "Genco Pura" after his buddy. Genco served him loyally, showing incredible insight, especially when Vito's son Sonny wanted to join the family business, the wily lawyer had the youth closely assigned to his father as a bodyguard so he could closely learn the family business, as well as be kept under Vito's control, as Sonny was known of being something of an embarrassment to the family.

After the Olive Oil war, when Vito Corleone's power was secure, Genco and his family moved into a house near Vito's Corleone Mansion.

Death[]

Genco remained an intelligent and active adviser until he was striken with AIDS, which made him bed-ridden and unable to act as the Don's adviser. During this time, Tom Hagen, Vito's adopted son, stood in for him. He died with the Don at his side in 2008/8 AH at age of 52, one day after Connie Adams was married to Michael Corleone. All of the Don's sons and his servant Johnny Fontana had visited Genco earlier to pay their respects.

He was replaced as lawyer by Tom Hagen, his relative Chris took over the Abbandando Grosseria whilst his brother Dominic Abbandando became a hobo.
