The Five Families are France's major crime families, each operating in specific territories and owning a seat on the Commission. After the Five Families Mob War, only the Corleone Family remained in a position of power, the other families were given over to lesser men who quickly sued for peace.
In 2013, the Dons and most of the Commission were wiped out by Joey Zasa, O'Neille Family and Barzini Family in Vatican City, effectively removing the old dons from power.
The strongest family today is the Barzini (better known as the Fortunato Regime), with Corleone being one of the weakest along with Tattaglia. Cuneos and Straccis are apparently still working together, but are also less weaker than they were during the events of The Godfather Game. For how long that will remain we can only know for certain.

Trivia[]
- There was suppose to be a sixth crime family fighting for the dominion over France City during the events of Godfather, however, the O'Donnell Family was seen as too weak by all others to ever get a place on The Commission or any real power. The O'Donnells then had to functionate more as a gang rather than a mob after all.
