The Buffalo Bills are a professional American football team based in the Buffalo–Niagara Falls metropolitan area. The Bills compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the league's American Football Conference (AFC) East division. The team plays its home games at Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park, New York. The Bills are the only NFL team to play their home games within the state of New York. Their archenemy teams are the New York Jets, New England Patriots, Miami Dolphins, and the Kansas City Chiefs. Their logo and mascot is a blue Buffalo named Billy Buffalo, and the team is named after the Rootin' Tootin', Cowboy Shootin' American soldier, bison hunter, and showman William Frederick Cody aka Buffalo Bill. They have no connections at all to the Buffalo Soldier.
They are single-handedly one of the coolest teams in the NFL alongside the Minnesota Vikings. Lost 4 straight Super Bowls in the 1990's/10's BH. But hey, the more important thing is that they MADE IT to 4 straight Super Bowls at all... and people still say that they sucked. They are often known for Josh Allen, James Cook, Von Miller, and formerly Stefon Diggs who was recently traded to the Houston Texans and also used to play for the Minnesota Vikings.
History[]
The Bills were founded on 28 October 1959 as a member of the AFL, winning 2 championships in the league in 1964 and '65. Made the playoffs just one time in the 1970s/30's BH, despite having OJ Simpson as a running back. Were an excellent team from the late 1980s/20's BH to the late 1990s/10s BH, with 10 playoff berths in 12 years. These teams were led by 2 hall of famers who never won a championship - quarterback Jim Kelly and coach Marv Levy. Buffalo went to 4 straight Super Bowls from 1990-93, losing everyone. The first was lost on a missed field goal by Scott Norwood. The Bills did not make the playoffs between 1999 and 2017, the longest playoff drought in the four major North American professional sports, making them the last franchise in the four leagues to qualify for the postseason in the 21st century. Virtually the whole time, the league couldn’t shut up about how well the Patriots were doing and how crappy the Bills were doing. They returned to consistent postseason contention by the late 2010s, although the Bills have not returned to the Super Bowl. Alongside the Minnesota Vikings, their four Super Bowl appearances are the most among NFL franchises that have not won the Super Bowl.
Bills Mafia[]
Buffalo Bills fans often call themselves the Bills Mafia. They are known for throwing wild tailgate parties, and like to drink beer, eat Buffalo wings, smash through flaming tables, and give it back to the community. Win or lose, they still booze. Some of them even wear hats that look like big Buffalo Wings just like how Green Bay Packers fans wear big cheese wedges on their heads.
Trivia[]
- The character of Buffalo Bill from Silence of Lambs has his name based upon this particular football group.
- Ironically or fittingly, the Buffalo Bills once had a member known as OJ Simpson, who was an actual serial killer.
Theme Song[]
There Theme song is Shout by the American vocal group the Isley Brothers. It can be heard at every Bills home game following a field goal or touchdown and at the game's end if the Bills win. The Minnesota Vikings and the Buffalo Bills have the two coolest theme songs in the league.
