Bluie is a baby bluebird who was saved by Sammy the Squirrel when he (Sammy) chewed open a branch that was caught around his foot when his parents accidentally left him behind during winter migration. He was cared for and protected by Sammy all the way until his parents came back. Bluie was also taught how to fly by Sammy's flying squirrel friend named Secret. Sammy and Secret became the trusted babysitters of Bluie the bluebird by his grateful parents.
