The Black Elk Tribe is a tribe of Native Americans in Red Dead Revolver. They also serve as a personal army of Queen Almeida thanks to their resurrection and at times, Shao Kahn.

Info[]

The Black Elk is a tribe of Native Americans (probably with some relation to the Navajo) residing near The Diablo Mines. They have had a long lasting feud with the older Red Wolf Tribe, which intensified after the Black Elks sold themselves out to General Diego and defiled the Red Wolf's sacred burial grounds at the Diablo Mine. The selling out was made by the tribe's greedy leader, Grizzly.

During the events of Revolver, the Black Elk is working alongside the Mexican Army at the mountains surrounding the Diablo Mine and its territory. The Red Wolf Shadow Wolf killed the tribe's leader Grizzly after finding out Diego and his men captured his cousin, Red Harlow at the mines. Grizzly also possessed the keys needed to unlock Harlow's cell door. When another one of the prisoners from the Mine, Buffalo Soldier, escapes with the help from Wolf, the Black Elk and Diego's men tried their best to stop him from crossing over the Mexican-US border at Hell's Pass. Buffalo succeeded, however and killed many Black Elks. However, he was unaware that Brimstone's Mayor Griffon was working along with Diego for the gold and thus, the Black Elk tribe and had Buffalo imprisoned.

The Black Elk eventually disbanded and died out after losing it's last leader Running Paw in 1913 after he was killed by some outlaws in Mississippi.

New Era events[]

During the events of New Era, Queen Almeida of Boolos resurrected the tribe and their leader and send him to Outworld where he would become one of the newest allies of Shao Kahn during his takeover of the purple, deserty planet from his half-brother, Kotal Kahn.

Chief Grizzly and a couple of his men are presented during Shao and his buddies' attack of the Tarkatan Camps on the wastelands of Outworld's beaches. Unknown to them was that at the same time, Kotal and Jade launched an attack at the Tarkatans of their own as well. Jade and Ko'atal were captured by Shao, while Grizzly and his men fought the Tarkata scum, killing most of them with their bows and arrows plus Grizzly's poisonous knives and claws.

Back at Kahn's Coliseum, Shao is getting ready to execute a captured Kotal, but before he can do his thing, Princess Kitana storms in, leading the remaining Tarkatans and Ponys under one banner to take over Outworld once again from her father, but they failed miserably, Grizzly's tribe helping in the defense. After a long battle, Kitana and her minions are defeated and Kotal is imprisoned on the Queen Anne's Revenge, while Shao becomes his planet's Emperor once again. As a reward and a thank you for serving him well, the Black Elks get a territory on Outworld while Grizzly even gets a seat on Shao's parliament.

The Black Elks are not seen anymore after that minus their leader.

A couple a' months later, the Boolosian Queen continues to use and protect her Hourglass at her Keep to keep the New Era perfect, but then she is alerted by Geras and Grizzly, who inform her about Shang Tsung, Darrius and Lex Luthor arriving to the Keep. She's in disbelief about their reach, even though they say it is escapable. She then sends Geras and Jacob Redwood to attack the intruders while Grizz is ordered to defend Almeida's Keep.

Trivia[]

  • Some of the Black Elk members during the mission "Hell Pass" share Running Moon's character model, ironically, he is the chief of Red Wolf Tribe, Elk's rivals.
  • Standing Snake, while working for and serving the Black Elk, was also a part of Bad Bessie's Gang until her death.
  • In Red Dead Revolver 3dn edition, Black Elk's role as Bad Bessie's gang's role was replaced by Indian Gang.
    • Their leader, Grizzly, is replaced with an actual bear. In this case, Brumas the Bear.
      • Dutch van der Linde's part of the tribe and Brumas' don't seem to be working together, meaning they are a separate gang.
  • There was a real life traitor of a medicine man named Nicholas Black Elk whose job was to convert his fellow Native Americans to Catholics along with his children. If that doesn't sound like Christian fundamentalism, I don't know what does.
  • The Black Elks appear as minions of Queen Almeida during her boss fight in the Story and Arcade mode.
