Basil Shaw is a minor hero character appearing in the prologue of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. He was a friend of Indiana Jones and father of Helena Shaw.
Biography[]
Basil Shaw was born July 7, 1888/112 BH in England. He graduated from Oxford University in 1909/91 BH. He subsequently became an archaeologist and professor. He first met Henry "Indiana" Jones in 1937, another archaeologist and professor. They became decent friends. Indiana Jones was the godparent of his daughter named Helena Shaw who was born two years later in 1938. Indiana Jones and Basil Shaw both helped their countries’ war effort during World War II. In January of 1946, Indiana Jones and Basil Shaw went undercover in the Profaci crime family as they were plotting to steal the dial of Archimedes and sell it on the black market. It could potentially make their crime syndicate from last to first place within the pecking order of NYC’s Five Families (which has nothing to do with France's Five Families decades later). They passed themselves off as Minnesota Smith and Alan Hawk, a couple of black marketeers who would buy the dial. In June of 1946, they revealed themselves somewhere in upstate New York and threatened them to hand over the dial before they informed the FBI. Jimmy Vincent and a few other mobsters sent Basil Shaw to the woods so that he could dig his own grave and they could bury his body. On the other hand, Tommy Lombardo and a few other made men took Indiana Jones to the shore so he could be given the old concrete shoes and thrown into the Great Lakes. Indy and Basil both ended up escaping, though. Tommy Lombardo died while fighting Indy on top of a train heading for Maine. The pair ended up walking off with half of the dial after jumping in the Great Lakes. After their mission was sorta successful, Indy decided he had seen enough adventure so he retired. He also caught wind of that the Soviet Union and the United States were in a Cold War with each other, so he ended up living in a bomb shelter to stay safe, out in nowhere Nevada with his father and friend named Marcus Brody until they passed away. Despite claiming to be retired, in 1957, he was brought on another adventure when the Russian mafia came a knocking in US. That’s another story though. The story of Jones' adventures against Irina Spalko to be specific. Anywho, Indy essentially walked out on Basil and Helena (the latter of whom was only a seven at the time). Basil wanted the dial of Archimedes destroyed but Indy never fulfilled his promise. Basil Shaw died in 1953 from unspecified causes.
